If you go to amazon.com you can order this grill for $899 plus shipping. I picked up my Summit 450 at a local store. It was a display model, with a few scratches, that they were getting rid of for $780 plus tax.

Everything the other reviewers commented on is true this grill is built as solid as a tank.

The only additional comment I can contribute about this grill is on the fantastic customer service I’ve received from Weber. Since this was a floor model I did not receive any paperwork from the store. I called Weber and they sent all the paperwork, including their cookbook for free. My Summit 450 also had a problem with one of the igniter’s not working 100%. I called Weber, told them about the problem and they sent a replacement part free of charge. You just can’t beat this type of customer support. I don’t think I’ll need to buy another grill for 10 years, but when I do, it will definitely be a Weber. Yes, your initial cost is higher, but I honestly feel that your final cost over the life of the grill will be more competitive to the less expensive brands, because parts are easily available and can be easily replaced. Plus, you’ll be less frustrated in the end run. Who wants to go to the store that you bought the grill from just to find out they don’t have the part, or worse, the part is no longer available because they’ve discontinued the model. Weber parts are available everywhere, and this grill is made in the USA.

I live in Houston and have a pool. The climate is hot and humid, in addition, the chlorine I put in the pool makes all metal around the pool prone to rust. I’ve owned the typical $200 grills in the past. They last about 2 years, usually the last year of their life the grill is very rusty and the grilling experience is not fun. Last time I bought an Aussie, which was a $450 grill. I thought that I’ll spend a little more, and the grill will last longer. The Aussie lasted 1 1/2 years. The base that holds the burners rusted through. In order to preserve this grill I would have had to buy a new body.

If you look at the Weber Summit 450, in addition to having a lot of stainless steel parts, the parts that are made of regular steel and aluminum appear to be easily replaceable. These parts are not welded to the body, they are attached with screws and bolts. This means that if something does wear out, corrodes, breaks, I can easily replace it, rather than buy a new grill.

Note 1: The newer Weber series have burners that run horizontally (left to right), whereas this grill has the older style burners that run vertically (front to back). My impression is that Weber introduced this design to have a better convection heating. So if you go with this older Summit design you might lose some of this benefit. I can still cook with convection heating by turning the middle burners off, but I’m guessing this design is not as efficient as the newer models.

Note 2: This grill gets hot fast. It will not get to 700 degrees is less than 2 minutes like the new Weber’s, but It will get there in about 15 minutes. This ability is great because it works like a self cleaning over. When I’m done cooking meat that drips a lot of fat. I just crank the Summit up, and in about 20 minutes all the residue has turned to ash.

I guess in summary all I can say is that the other reviews are 100% accurate. Except now that the Summit is discontinued, you can get it for a sensational price.
