Our Weber Q300 grill has been an excellent purchase. We bought this grill four months ago and have been cooking with it two to three times a week with excellent results. The grill must be assembled. This was very easy to do with very logical instructions and clearly labeled parts. Operating the grill is pretty straight forward. However, you must slowly turn the supply valve of the LP tank to avoid tripping a safety valve on the grill which reduces gas flow. I didn’t do this once and the grill would only heat to 300 degrees. The grill heated to maximum temp after I closed the supply valve for five minutes and opened the valve slowly as directed by the owners manual. My only complaint or concern about the Q300 has to do with the grill cover supplied by Weber for the grill. The grill cover is very form fitting to the grill. It’s difficult to put on and when removed builds a static charge and will inadvertently turn the the gas knobs on. The first time I used the grill I took off the cover which turned the gas knobs without my knowledge. I turned on the supply valve and went into the house. Fortunately a wasn’t inside very long because when I got back to the grill there was a very strong odor of propane. I then realized the gas knobs where on. I turned off the gas and vented the grill. No harm done this time but I think this is a serious safety concern with the Weber provided grill cover.
We bought this grill as a replacement for our Weber Genesis Silver A we sold prior to moving. We have always owned Weber grills (our Weber Smokey Joe is 26 years old and still going strong). I wanted to try a Weber “Q” style grill and the Q300 is perfect as a replacement for our old Silver A. The cooking surface is about the same size as the Silver A and and it heats up faster and attains a higher temperature than the Silver A. The Q300 also has a sealed cast iron grill which we prefer.
The Good: It’s a Weber, Excellent cooking results with everything we have grilled, Temperature easy to regulate, Built to last, Stainless steel burners, Sealed cast iron cooking surface, Easy cleaning.
The Bad: Old style push button ignition, Possible safety problem with grill cover inadvertently moving gas knobs when taken off of the grill.
UPDATE: I have had the grill for about a year now. I have to say that this grill surpasses my beloved Weber Silver A in every way. My old Silver A had to be taken apart and cleaned regularly or you would have nasty grease fires. My new Q300 doesn’t seem to have to have a problem with grease fires. We have used this grill constantly since we bought it. It has stayed outside and been used in a Upstate NY Winter and all the components still function like new.
