We bought one of these after a year of debating whether or not we wanted to spend the money.
I LOVE THIS GRILL!! You can either grill like normal, of course using wood pellets, or you can slow smoke. We are farmers, so we have or own meat butchered and we tend to eat everything but the roast. This is the best way for us to clean up the roast. We live in a small rural are and the place where we bought the grill is where we buy all of our appliances and he told us to use it just like you would your oven, so we did. I cooked homemade pizza on it, and that was the best pizza I have ever had. I also made meat loaf on it, which was wonderful. Green beans, peas, corn, baked potatoes, mac and cheese, they are all great on this grill
This model comes with a digital control which is really nice so it is just like setting the oven. You do have to adjust higher or lower for the weather, if it is cold you have to turn it up.
I was worried about having to always buy wood pellets, but they are really not much more then buying the propane for the grill. I was also worried about how it would affect the electricity bill, because it has to be plugged in to run the pellet feeder and digital control, but I have seen only a couple of dollars difference and we have cooked on it everyday.
If you are considering getting one of these I highly recommend it. It has been one of the best investments we have made. I am actually cooking roast now to take to Sunday dinner with my husbands family, they have a large family!!
The recipe book that comes with it has recipes for different desserts and that is one thing I haven’t tried yet. You would use the apple, maple and other fruit pellets.
It isn’t that deep. The front square part of the traeger is where the wood pellets go. The the back rounded dome is where the meat goes. The cooking surface is about even with the flat work surface in the front. The rest of the dome is where there is a grate over the flame so that you are actually getting the smoked cooking and not just grilling. Basically the only flame you have is what is needed to burn the wood pellets. The actual dimensions of the grill are 42.5H x 24W x 30.5D and your actual cooking area is 22″x19″. There are smaller grills for less money but you don’t get the digital thermostat which I have found to be very helpful. I am not sure but, I think that you can add the digital thermostat to any grill for a small fee. There is a traeger website. www.traegergrill.com I have found it to be very helpful with what accessories you can get. They have a wide variety of rubs and marinades and many different flavors of wood pellets

We made lasagna on our grill, that was probably the best lasagna I have ever had. I just layered everything then put it on the grill like I would in the oven. It was so good.
We also cooked Chili on the grill, they were really good as well, we just fried the meat and then added everything and mixed it all up and then put it on the grill for a couple of hours on smoke, it was really good, and the leftovers were even better.
