My problems with the Lynx Natural Gas Outdoor BBQ grill I purchased began on the day it was delivered. I had ordered the grill from SalesUnlimited Inc. over the internet. The seller substituted a “converted” LP (Propane) grill for the Natural Gas version I ordered without even asking me if it would be OK. The grill still had an LP Regulator and LP Hose attached when I got it. It was missing a Natural Gas Regulator and fittings. The grill had the wrong orifices and had not been gas leak tested or flame hight adjusted as required in the manufacturer’s conversion instructions. The product burned food, its own internal components and permanently scorched its cabinet when I tried to use it to cook. SalesUnlimited would not take it back or give me a refund. Lynx would only offer to make repairs, leaving me with a rebuilt, very ugly, although functional grill. The repairs which were performed by a factory authorized serviceman, made the grill identical in every respect, (feature, function, etc.) to the Natural Gas version I had purchased, except of course for the cabinet scorching.
The grill cooks no better than others of much lower cost. The grill is advertised as 27 wide. Thats the exterior width; the cooking surface measures a mere 23 by 18. This is somewhat smaller than most $2000 grills. The grill is extremely heavy, about 300 pounds. The casters are small so it can only be moved on a smooth surface; even then its difficult for one person to push around. There is a large (the same dimensions as the cooking surface) 2 deep drip pan that slides out like a very large flat drawer from under the burners. Even with the grill left closed, the drip pan fills with water whenever it rains. Emptying it is a messy chore. It is virtually impossible to slide the pan out without spilling greasy water on my redwood deck floor. From there the fluid drips down to the first floor patio below. The grill controls are pretty standard although there is no temperature gauge. The grill also has a wood chip tray for smoking but its only 3 by 5 and 1 deep so it holds less than a handful of wood chips. It is located way over to the right front corner of the grill and provided barely a hint of smoky flavor when I used the grill to cook a steak. The model I bought comes with a rotisserie. The rotisserie has a strong motor but the burner gets so hot that even the stainless steel outer housing of the grill behind it discolors whenever the rotisserie is used. That is something I did not think could happen to stainless steel. The only way I have been able to clean the discoloration is with a very strong chemical cleaner (Carbon-Off), some very smooth sand paper and a lot of hard work. The grill also has folding, removable shelves on either side. Unfortunately the removable feature can occur whenever you raise or lower them. There is a vinyl cover available but it will only fit over the grill if both shelves are folded down, and as just mentioned, the shelves can easily fall off when being folded up or down. That makes putting the cover on or taking it off a hassle.
I was very disappointed with Lynxs refusal to replace the grill following their dealers improperly performed conversion, which left the grill very ugly to look at. Lynx told me it is “standard industry practice” to convert the grills, even new ones. They said they do not require their resellers to tell customers they are getting a store-converted grill. Lynx’s blessing of its resellers converting products prior to customer delivery negates any level of quality control Lynx may have done at the factory. The product I received was non-functional and dangerous. Lynx did little to help me resolve the problem. Considering this is a “high-end” product, customers should expect a grill that works, backed up by a manufacturer that will satisfy customer problems.
Overall, this is a very expensive, not so great barbeque grill with poor dealer and manufacturer support.
