I purchased the Coleman Roadtrip Grill as a gift for my husband in December 2004. I can’t say enough good things about this grill. It’s easy to use, portable, lightweight and compact. The nonstick coating is great for grilling fish and other items that tend to stick to a traditional grill.
The propane tanks are small and can generally be found in major chain grocery and drug stores for around $3.00 to $4.00 per canister. We use the grill an average of twice per week and cooking time is 15-20 minutes per session. A canister of fuel lasts approximately 8-10 sessions. This comes out to a fuel cost of 40 cents per meal, which is considerably less than using charcoal or wood. It’s also less frustrating. Just turn the knob, push the button, and you’re ready to start grilling.
In June 2006, my husband turned the Coleman Roadtrip grill on and walked inside the house to retrieve the food he was going to prepare. A few minutes later, the entire front of the grill was engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the flames, we were shocked to see that the knobs and handle had melted off the grill.
I searched the internet to see if the Coleman Roadtrip Grill had been recalled and discovered that it had been recalled in Australia for a similar problem (http://www.colemanaust.com.au/roadtrip_recall.aspx). However, it had not been recalled in the USA.
I contacted Coleman via their Customer Relation link at their website. I explained that our grill had exploded and caught on fire and inquired about the recall in Australia. I also provided a photo of the melted grill.
Within a few days, I was contacted by Coleman. They sent a courier to pick up the grill and promptly replaced it with a new one. We were extremely pleased with the customer service we received and pleasantly surprised that they provided us with a new grill.
