My dad has always been a great steak chef, so we have owned many expensive gas and charcoal grills. None have compared to the Brinkmann Sportsman Charcoal Double-Grill Smoker and Grill 815-3060-C.

I bought this grill for my dad at WalMart for around $60 for Christmas one year. He tried it out shortly thereafter, and found to his surprise that it cooked a much better steak than any of the super expensive grills he had owned. My dad is now using his fourth Brinkmann grill.

The secret to using the Brinkmann is establishing a good fire. You should make a good pyramid of charcoal and let that burn for awhile with a fan turned on it. Then you spread out the coals, shut the door, put the top on, and you’re ready to go. One of the Brinkmann’s finer points is that it maintains steady temperatures. It really does produce the best flavored steaks because of this.

The Brinkmann is also ideal for smoke cooking meats. I have used it to cook chickens, turkeys, and roasts. This is very simple to do. The Brinkmann has two pans inside of it. In the bottom pan you build your fire, and in the top pan you put water and maybe some marinade for flavor. Then you set your meat on a rack above the water pan, and you leave it for a couple of hours, depending on the amount of meat. The secret here is to not open the door or the lid too often. Every time you open up the grill, you change the temperature, and it affects the taste of the meat (and the cook time increases).

One last remark on the Brinkmann is in regards to how easy it is to own. The grill is very portable from area to area around your home, although I would not recommend traveling with it. The grill is also very easy to clean. You simply dump out the pans and hose them out. The pans can be lifted right out of the grill and dumped, so you will never have to shovel any ashes out of the grill.
