I purchased the ESQ30B smoker from BassPro for $200 which is a good price when compared to the other similar smoker brands. I used the item several times and these are my comments:

1. The wood holder is not designed very well for removal of unburned/charred chips. It is almost impossible to get into the holder with your hands/fingers for chip removal. It is removable—but only by removing 4 non-captive, sheet metal screws (also difficult to access—and even more difficult to replace!!)

2. After several uses, the magnetic seal (black molding) on the door became distorted in some areas and at times prevents one from closing the door without “tinkering” with the molding. I contacted Masterbuilt customer service via e-mail (from their website) re-the seal and after several weeks have received no reply. (I seem to recall that their website indicates that they will respond within 24-48 hrs.)

3. Recently during a very cold, 20 deg day, (the smoker is housed under a waterproof cover on my back deck)the smoker would not come on. I removed the solid state controller module and warmed it up inside my home. I replaced the module and the unit came on and I continued to smoke some meats successfully. I considered contacting Masterbuilt to question them re-low temperature effects on their controller, but have not done so (I don’t have too much confidence in their responding based on my first,unsuccessful attempt. (as mentioned in item 2)
