I received the Coleman Propane Grill Stove 9921-700 as a gift from my wife. I’m not big on camping, but my family does like to go on picnics and grill out. We had tried several other small grills but really weren’t satisfied with any.
The grill comes in Coleman green color. It has a lid that closes and locks with a press in button. When opened, the top of the lid serves as the back wall of the grilling area. There are also two foldout walls for the sides that clip into place. The grill/stove runs on the small disposable propane cylinders. Sometimes they are a little aggravating trying to screw in. Coleman does sell these, but I’ve been able to use the off brands as well.
You have to use a match or lighter to ignite the burners. There is not an electronic ignition. There are separate controls for the stove and the grill. The grill side has one burner that goes down the middle of the grill horizontally. The grate is removable for cleaning. The bottom of the grill side is sloped to a hole for drainage into a small removable grease pan. This slope also helps when cleaning.
One thing that I learned very quickly is that both the grill and the stove burn VERY hot. I quickly charred a burger the first time when I wasn’t paying careful attention and had the burner on high. Now I cook almost exclusively with the burners on low, which is plenty warm.
Although we bought this to use for picnics, it has also come in handy on several occasions when we have had power outages in the winter. Although we didn’t grill burgers in the winter, we placed a cast iron skillet on the grill and another one on the stove side and it worked just. As always, this is an outdoor grill. Don’t use it indoors. It was a little cold cooking, but it sure beat not having anything warm to eat.
The grill side is not tremendously large. When we cook, we can squeeze four hamburgers on it. More than that and it’s a little much.
When it’s all together, it’s a little on the heavy side. You wouldn’t want to carry it in a backpack. It’s great for a picnic. We’ve never tailgated before, but I think this would come in handy too.
The grill does not come with propane tanks. You have to buy those extra.
