Last year (6/04) I set out to buy a top of the line gas grill, all my friends said go with weber but I found them to be pricey and limited in cooking surface so after searching for over a month I decided on the Coleman 6000. I paid $800 and loved the fact that this grill has a huge cooking area and many features found on grills twice the price, my first summer using it was a delight. However, this week (5/16/05)I uncovered it to start using it and was shocked to find rust in all the key areas of the grill. The igniters are all covered in rust, the porcelain tents have rust blisters all over them, the oil/debris tray is rotted out and the black finish on the inside of the lid has bubbled and flaked off, in short it looks like a grill that is 5 to 8 years old despite being covered when ever not in use and all through the winter. On top of this the gas regulator appears to be clogged or defective because I am barely getting a trickle of gas to the burners when set on high despite a full propane tank.

I have not yet spoken to Coleman about these issues but even if they were to replace all the rotted parts, because this grill is still under warranty, I can not recommend it in good faith. Coleman wrapped this grill superficially in stainless steel giving the impression that it is weatherproof but cut corners on key components that should have been weather proofed as well. If you do buy it I recommend you store it in a shed or garage for the winter because it can not take the moisture out doors.
