I bought the silver model because I wanted the bottom vents, and I never move it. I set it up on the patio table. I also mounted a temp gauge on the lid to control the temp range using both sets of vents, top and bottom. Weber says to start with 30 briquets, its not enough, fill the charcoal chimney all the way up to the top, after I dumped in the lit coals, the temp hit 700deg with both sets of vents wide open, WoW !! I closed the vents half way and the temp dropped to 525deg. I closed them to about 1/3 open and the temp settled at 425deg, thats where I left it. over a two day period I cooked Kabobs, chicken breasts, Italian suasage, and even some spam, it all came out just fine. The grills size works out well for me and the wife, and its easy on charcoal, I always have some left for next time. The ashes from the bottom vent gets messy but no big deal, the tray underneath catches them, it cleans up fast too. It also cools down quick with the vents closed, so no matter what you cook with now, for 30 bucks its a great deal, get one, the Gold version is the better traveler, and has side vents, other wise, its the same grill.
