I’ve had this smoker for about a year. It does the job — I’ve produced some great food, but don’t be fooled by the initial low cost. This is much more expensive than an electric model if you use it more than occasionally. Why? Because each time you use it you’re supposed to burn 8-10 pounds of charcoal! That’s what’s recommended in the directions, and you need that much to keep the heat coming.

Note that it’s also messy to take the different charcoal pan, water pan, and grate components in and out (things are hot, greasy, and sooty).

Apart from that, this grill can produce some great food.

I’ve ordered an electric converter ($35) from Brinkmann, but can’t comment on that yet. If that works well, that may be the cheapest way to get great smoked food (charcoal model plus electric converter).
