It’s true smoking is addictive, and I’m hooked. Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker Smoker 2820 I got my Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker (WSM) about a month ago from Dickson Supply (http://www.dicksonsupply.com)....
Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker Smoker
Do you know what I learned how to do last year?
Smoke turkey!
Do you know what my husband has been doing for the pass twenty years?
Smoke fish, turkey, chicken, venison and any other meat product you can think of.
Guess what we have two of?
That’s right, two Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker Smokers.
I fell in love with this smoker eight years a go. It has been updated a bit through the years, but in general they are still the same. (we bought a new one this summer for my own use)
This smoker is a hearty beater in any weather. It has sat outside in the rain, snow and hot humid weather. The older one does have a few rust stains on the body, but the inside is still in excellent condition. (Yes, folks. We smoke meats all year round.)
Most people use plain charcoal with the smokers. But I will tell you a secret. You can use the charcoal, but buy hickory chips to dash on top of the charcoal to get that flavor and that terrific smell.
Price of charcoal and chips
Charcoal for one smoking run will cost you 10.00 for a good brand, 5.00 for the generic products.
Hickory chips, usually one 10lb. bag will do you just fine. The cost varies on brand. I rarely spend over 8.00 for a bag, but I have seen the husband spend 15.00 for chips.
Apple chips are more expensive. I usually spend 12.00 for a 10lb. bag. But a delightful extra if you smoke hams.
There is an extra plus we found with this brand of smoker, you take off the middle section and there you have yourself an instant grill. We did this with the first one we bought when we didn’t have a grill at the time. My husband has used it for ice-fishing trips and up North trips deer hunting.
features
Two cooking grates included. (that was the extra fun of doing bunches of fish at a time)
A porcelain on steel water drip pan. (which is where you can also add oil drops of flavor also that will invaporate into the meats)
Rust resistant aluminum door with wood handle. (be careful, the handle does get a bit hot after a long period of smoking. Please use proper mitts)
Grill top with wood handle. (this hasn’t gotten hot on us,but I still recommend to use proper mitts to be on safe side)
Two release grates. (one on top and one on bottom..please read your manual about how to use these. Sometimes you open the bottom and top is closed and sometimes other way around, or together…well, you get the idea)
My only negative about this is that the product does get hot and you should keep children and pets away from it. Like any product that pertains to fire usage, I recommend keeping a pail of sand or water close by for emergencies.
This is the perfect gift for the hunter or fisherman in your family. It will save money in the long run.
