Forget the Warranty Viking VGBQ532T (NG) AllinOne Grill / Smoker This grill was installed in our new house's outdoor kitchen when we bought it and worked well for about 4-6 months...
My wife bought me one of these from ABT for father’s day. I loved it. It’s big and solid, and I tried out the smoker and rotisserie, and it all worked very well. The igniters worked well, the grill got hot fast, and all went to plan. I stored my grill under a covered porch, protected from rain.
After about 5 months of perfect grilling, (which I could have duplicated on the cheaper Jenn-Air JA460P) the left burner (the most often used) kind of turned into a torch. It would shoot fire straight back in one spot. So, in denial, I started using the other burner. It would never get hot enough. The little temperature guage on the outside of the grill never reached the “grilling” zone, even after hours of HIGH heat. Now, I’ve owned a few grills, and I’ve replaced those metal butterflies that distribute the gas before. But I did not expect a grill of this price, in a protected environment, to be useless after half a year.
Still in denial, I contacted ABT about fixing it in early June. Apparently it ain’t easy, because the July 4 weekend came and went and the grill was useless. I had a family reunion at my house, a once in a decade experience, on a weekend made for grilling. The Weber I bought from Wal Mart worked fine, while the big, heavy, useless Viking looked on.
I should have stuck to the Jenn Air, because even if the butterfly did rust out on it, I would be totally comfortable changing it with one of those Home Depot replacement butterflies. Save your money. Stay away from the Viking, and look at the Jenn-Air JA460P that consumer reports recommends.
